Over the weekend, an anonymous donor dropped a gold bar worth nearly $1,500 inside a Salvation Army red kettle in Louisville, Kentucky!
Louisville Area Commander Major Roy Williams told WAVE3 News that it's the fourth year in a row the organization has received a one-ounce gold piece. Unfortunately, the Salvation Army is still roughly $70,000 short of its $500,000 holiday season fundraising goal.
Believe it or not, however, valuables being dropped into Salvation Army kettles is very common: For six years running, an anonymous person has dropped two gold coins into a kettle in Broward County, Florida.
The latest coin donation, which came wrapped in dollar bills and is worth a reported $3,000, was found last weekend.
