Here's What to Buy & What to Skip if Stocking up for Coronavirus

If you are worried about the coronavirus, and want to stock up on supplies in case things get really bad, Lifehacker has some tips on what you should buy.

First, the outlet says, prepare like you would for a blizzard or a hurricane, not a full-fledged apocalypse. The most important item you need is simple, according to one expert: soap and water for cleaning. Other good items are wipes and disinfectant sprays, but there's no need to stock up on hand sanitizer.

Another tip is to buy a little more of the items you'd normally use. "Think about what you might need for you and your family to stay at home a week or longer around the clock,” an expert said.

“Buy non-perishable items or items with a long shelf life that you would need for two weeks.” According to Slate, one thing you don't need is bottled drinking water.

“Water stayed on in Wuhan”—at the very chaotic center of the coronavirus spread—”it’d stay on here,” said reporter Adam Rogers.
