Over in Lincoln Square, a bakery is finding success through helping the community and creating some tasty treats while they're at it.
The nonprofit Gateway to Learning has been helping the local Lincoln Square community, with one of their sweetest offerings being Dorothy's Sweet Shoppe on Lincoln Avenue where they provide life skills and workforce training to adults with “intellectual challenges and developmental disabilities”. The organization's participants help keep the shop running from baking the kolackies and potato chip cookies to taking customer’s orders and cashing them out.
Dorothy's shop has been around since 1986, but this fall the bakery revamped its storefront by giving it a much-needed update. If you are wanting to try out some of Dorothy’s sweet treats, they are open from 9:00 AM through 2:30 PM Monday through Saturdays, with the main story here.
