A new three-digit hotline launches on July 16th in hopes of saving lives. If Americans text or dial 988, they'll be connected with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Suicide is a leading cause of death in our country for children 15 to 19-years-old while the CDC reports that someone takes their life every 11 minutes in the US. At the moment, only 13 states have passed legislation to pay for staffing to answer the calls or texts. All other calls will be answered out-of-state. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will still keep its current number, 800-273-TALK, active.
