Beloved Bus Driver Starts Program To Help Children Learn To Read

You have to adore people who love their job. Mr. Herman in New Jersey is one such person. He is more than a bus driver, he's now a friend and reading teacher to students. He said he always knew he wanted to be a bus driver since he was in the 2nd grade, but now his other passion has become teaching children to read. "The beautiful thing about being a school bus driver, for all intents and purposes, I'm another parent," he said. "Just for that little while coming to school." He works at Middle Township School District and because of his long commute he would stay at the school to avoid a 40 minute drive back and forth. Sometimes he would go inside the school, other days he took naps in his car but he said he always saw one particular student that wanted to read. So, Mr. Herman worked with the kindergarten teacher to set up a time that he could help that child with his reading. What started out with one child, then grew to more and more. Now it has exploded into Mr. Herman being there all the time and being such a positive force in that entire building. "As long as God's blessing me with life to keep Mr. Herman's Kids going, I'm going to do my part," said Mr. Herman.
