About 45 minutes before his bodyguard found him dead in his hotel room, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell spoke with his wife by phone and repeatedly told her, "I'm just tired."
According to a police report obtained by The Detroit News, 52-year-old Cornell received two Ativans from bodyguard Martin Kirsten at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Five minutes later, he told wife Vicki in a slurred voice he may have taken "an extra Ativan or two." Vicki then called Kirsten at 12:15 a.m. to check on Cornell "because he did not sound like he is okay...[he was] groggy and just kept saying, 'I am just tired.'"
While the Wayne County (Mich.) Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Cornell committed suicide by hanging, his family has questioned that ruling. They reportedly want to wait until toxicology tests are completed before determining an official cause of death. Meanwhile, Cornell's private funeral service will take place Friday at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in L.A.
