Nun Says She's Broke After Legal Battle With Katy Perry

An 80-year-old nun who's battling diabetes and breast cancer says it's her legal battle with Katy Perry over an L.A. convent that's really ruined her life. "I have diabetes and breast cancer," Sister Rita Callahan told The Daily Mail on Saturday, adding that the dispute has bankrupted her and her fellow nuns.

"All we are asking is to sell our own property, keep our own money so we can take care of ourselves until the last person dies...There's not many more years, give me a break."

Callahan adds that L.A. Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, who finalized the sale of the convent to Perry, closed the bank accounts of the nuns living there and sent them to a retirement home. Earlier this month, another nun who joined Callahan in the battle to avoid selling the property to Perry collapsed and died in court.
