Craigslist announced on Friday that it's shutting down its Personals section following the passage of an anti-online-sex-trafficking bill in the Senate that would hold third-party web services criminally responsible for illegal activity marketed on their sites.
"Any tool or service [like Craigslist] can be misused," the online buying-and-selling platform said in a note to suers. "We can't take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking Craigslist personals offline.
Hopefully, we can bring them back some day. To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!"
