Walmart has decided to ban the women's magazine Cosmopolitan from the checkout lines of its 5,000 U.S. stores. The mag will still be available alongside other publications in the periodical section, however. In a Facebook Live video shared Tuesday by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, Vice President of Advocacy and Outreach Haley Halverson said, "You can go through and buy your groceries with your family knowing you don't have to be exposed to this graphic and often degrading and offensive material."
NCOSE also claimed responsibility for encouraging Walmart's new policy in a press release. Meanwhile, Walmart spokesperson Meggan Kring told USA Today that "the concerns raised were heard," although she added that the move was "primarily a business decision."
