Black Student Shot At After Asking For School Directions

A white man in Michigan has been charged with assault with intent to murder after he shot at at a black teenager who knocked on his door to ask for directions. After 14-year-old Brennan Walker missed his bus to Rochester High School on Thursday, he decided to walk, but got lost along the way.

When he knocked on the door of Jeffrey Zeigler for help, it almost cost him his life. "[Zeigler's wife] started yelling at me and she was like, 'Why are you trying to break into my house?' I was trying to explain to her that I was trying to get directions to Rochester High," says Walker.

"Then the guy came downstairs, and he grabbed the gun, I saw it and started to run. And that's when I heard the gunshot." Walker's mother, who has since seen the Zeiglers' Ring video of the encounter, adds, "You can hear the wife say, 'Why did "these people" choose my house?' Who are 'these people?' And that set me off." Says Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, "I feel terrible for the young man; I feel terrible for the mom...We are going to ask for every charge permissible for this guy, who stepped up and fired a shotgun because someone knocked on his door."
