A 5-year-old in Indiana received the welcome of a lifetime when he returned to school after his father was killed in the line of duty. Dakota Pitts told his mom he wanted one of his dad's co-workers to drive him to school in his father's old police vehicle on Monday.
When Dakota and his cop chauffeur arrived at his school, 70 additional local police officers and sheriff's deputies were waiting to greet him. "He will definitely know his dad was a hero,” Kelli Jones, sister of fallen officer Rob Pitts, told WTHI-TV. "Blood doesn't always make family, and I think the blue family went above and beyond." Since Rob's death, Dakota has been visiting his dad's car outside of police headquarters, where it's been erected as a memorial.
