The South Shore trains will be free for some riders in Northwest Indiana (perfect for the Auto Show), and the only catch is that you have to take the train at off-peak times and it's only for rides into the city, not to go home. The free rides are from February 9-18 and include weekend and off-peak hours, which means weekday trains arriving at Millennium Station after 9:30 am and leave Millennium Station before 3:30 pm and after 6:30 pm.
