If you use the South Shore to commute in from Northwest Indiana then you're probably aware of the expansion project. The proposal is to expand service for 8 miles between Dyer and Hammond. The Department of Transportation gave the district a rating that moves the process one step closer to funding the project. Next, the property acquisitions and project designs begin. The construction could begin in 2020.
