The Army Corps Is Going to Start Repairing the Lakefront.

In the next couple of weeks, the US Army Corps of Engineers will be doing emergency repair work along the storm-damaged sections of the Lakefront trail between 49th and 51st street. The Army has been called in because of the extensive damage that was done to the Lakefront Trail during the storms that came back in January.

The repair effort is also the start of the ongoing Chicago Shoreline Protection Project, which aims to protect the lakeshore at Morgan Shoals and Promontory Point. So far there has been 5 thousand feet for barriers placed and 1 thousand feet of sandbags placed to protect trails and roads along the lake. Hopefully in the coming months the lakefront will be fully protected since the lake is expected to get higher.
