Escaped 45-Pound African Tortoise Returned to Owner in Morton Grove

On Friday in Chicago suburb Morton Grove, Illinois, Animal Control Officer Megan Glawocz responded to a call concerning a large reptile eating grass on a residential road near a Walgreens.

The "large reptile" turned out to be a "friendly" 45-pound African tortoise named Betty, who Glowacz tells The Chicago Tribune "was just having a good grass meal and enjoying the sunshine."

After capturing Betty, Glowacz returned her to her owner; apparently the tortoise dug her way to freedom in her owner's yard.
