Smog has Come Back to Chicago for the First Time in Decades

With the heat here to stay in Chicago, an old problem has come back to the city. Smog has come back for the first time in decades.

With the combination of extreme heat interacting with tailpipes, smokestacks, and diesel engines, smog has returned to Chicago. This will mark the first time in decades we have had this level of poor air, and one of the few times it has surpassed the smog levels of Las Angeles.

Because of this, public officials are encouraging people to reduce the amount of time they spend outside, especially if you have existing breathing problems.
