Navy Pier has officially closed this week and will be through winter.
The decision was made in part because of a 20 million dollar deficit this year. The pier had over 600,000 visitors this past summer, but its normally closer to 4 million.
The temporary closure is necessary for them to survive for the winter. They are also not charging any rent to businesses inside the pier.
The plan is to reopen in the spring.
