Iconic Dinkel's is Closing!

Some sad news here in Chicago. After 100 years of being in business, one of the most iconic bakeries in the City, Dinkel’s Bakery is closing its doors. The bakery located on the border of Lakeview and Roscoe Village, opened its door in 1922 by Joseph and Antonie Dinkel. Through the generations it has been run by the Dinkel family, with questions about it being sold coming up but never going through. Just the other day though a closing sign was posted in their window reading “ To our customers and neighbors. Thank you …….. 101 years serving you, but it is time. Dinkel’s will close Saturday April 30th” The Bakery has become a mainstay in Chicago, with lines going out the doors on weekends. It was also a long time member of the Bakers Dozen, a secret society of leaders from the oldest family-owned bakeries in the city. Norman Dinkel, aged 79, the longtime owner of the bakery, said he was closing so he could retire. Norman even admits that “It’s never a good time to close, but its time”. If you want to know more about the closing of Dinkel’s, what is happening on their last day, or the history of this baking institution of Chicago, head on over to the main article here.
