Sear Sunken Garden is Getting a Makeover.

Over on the west side, community members are getting together to renovate a once thriving landmark. The Sears Sunken Garden, located in North Lawndale, was once home to extravagant annual flower shows and water features, but when Sears eventually moved downtown during the 70’s the park began to go into disrepair.

Now , The Foundation for Homan Square and several other groups are using a 150 thousand dollar grant to launch what could be a multimillion dollar overhaul to revive the space. The plan to redesign the garden is being spearheaded by the Friends of Sears Sunken Garden, a nonprofit founded by a collaborative of neighborhood groups that had been organizing projects to improve the garden for several years.

The group hopes to use the grant money to jumpstart the process of raising more money and getting designers and ultimately being able to restore the garden. So, hopefully in the coming years we will see this National Historical Landmark be brought back to its full glory. If you want to know more about the efforts head on over the the main article here.
