- Dog owner Bernie Knobbe has shared the incredible story of his 16-year-old dog, Paw Paw.
- Paw Paw had belonged to San Francisco resident John Weston, a man battling ALS who had adopted the dog from Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, a non-profit that finds home for senior dogs.
- Muttville's founder promised Weston she would help him find Paw Paw a loving home if he became to sick to care for him. Three years later, Weston began losing his battle with Lou Gehrig's.
- Muttville quickly worked to find a new home for Paw Paw, posting videos of Weston's story.
- That's when Bernie Knobbe came into the picture. He had already adopted several dogs from Muttville. Even though he lived in L.A., he was in San Francisco on a business trip and asked to meet Paw Paw.
- Knobbe and the elderly dog immediately connected, playing on the floor of Weston's home. That's when Weston asked his caregiver to summon Knobbe to his bedside.
- Knobbe said Weston briefly removed his oxygen tube, put his hand on his arm and said "‘You’re a good guy. This is good." Knobbe added "It was emotional. Everybody was crying in the room. It was obviously meant to be."
- It seems true because only three days after meeting Knobbe, Weston passed. Knobbe and the Muttville team believe that Weston was hanging on until he could find a perfect home for his pup.
