- The San Diego Zoo is vaccinating its ape population - a move it says will help protect both animals and people.
- After eight gorillas tested positive for coronavirus back in January, the zoo decided to vaccinate its apes. So far, three gorillas, six bonobos, and four orangutans have gotten their shots.
- The vaccine is a special animal version developed by a company called Zoetis, originally designed for use by cats and dogs.
- The Zoo has also vaccinated its staff - with human vaccine, of course - and has them undergo daily COVID screenings.
