- Nation's Restaurant News has a massive list of 2021's Top 500 U.S. restaurants. The top five based on 2020 system-wide sales are:
- 5. Wendy's - $10.29 billion
- 4. Chick-Fil-A - with $10.8 billion in sales in 2020
- 3. Taco Bell - $11.31 billion
- 2. Starbucks - $18.71 billion
- 1. McDonald's - which more than doubled Starbucks' system-wide sales, at $39.53 billion. Its sales were still strong despite losing dining room sales and axing all-day breakfast last year.
- Starbucks actually reported a 5% dip in sales for 2020 compared to 2019.
- Overall, US restaurant sales were down 4.3%, or by nearly $14 billion, compared to 2019.
