- LifeHacker.com interviewed three baristas who were happy to say that 95% of their interactions are great, but they dread dealing with that 5%. They had some recommendations on how to not be a total jerk in your local coffee shop.
- #1. Don’t take your emotional baggage out on your barista - before you step inside the coffee shop, do a little self-check to make sure your attitude is at least civil.
- #2. Look at the menu (and the atmosphere) before you order - one 15-year veteran said there's nothing worse than having a customer waltz up to the counter and order something that the coffee shop doesn't even offer.
- #3. Ask your barista for recommendations - One barista said "Tell me what you like. What are some flavor profiles you’re into? Working off of that is a good start."
- #4. Stay curious and always be respectful - It's more than saying "please" and "thank you"; if the coffee shop asks you to put on your mask, suck it up and put on your mask.
- #5. Tip generously—and in cash - That cash goes straight into the barista's pocket.
