- The Peninsula Humane Society in California was recently ready to do what most of us would never consider - rescue a tarantula.
- A homeowner had called the Humane Society about a tarantula stranded on the roof of a couple's home. The caller said the big arachnid "looked like it had been up there for a while."
- The staff member who rescued the tarantula from the roof climbed down and showed the couple their trapped tarantula - which was actually an old Halloween decoration they didn't know was on their roof.
- Humane Society communications manager Buffy Tarbox says the fake tarantula was used for gags around the shelter: "It became this funny thing where they were placing it on various people's desks. That joke wore a little thin. It was put into the trash."
