  • There may be fewer candy canes in your stocking this Christmas.
  • Between a 25% decrease in peppermint production over the last ten years and the current supply chain crisis, some Americans are having a hard time finding candy canes.
  • The owner of Economy Candy, a large confections store in New York City,  told The New York Post "We only received half of our candy cane order for the holiday season and sold out almost immediately. We currently have zero in stock. It's the first time the store has run out of candy canes in its 84-year history."
  • It's not just candy canes that are hard to come by this season; a lack of peppermint extract has affected cake and ice cream makers, as well as those who make popular holiday-inspired coffee creamers.
