Researchers Develop Reusable Ice Cube

  • The University of California has developed an ice cube that doesn't melt and can be reused.
  • The "jelly ice" stays just as cold as a traditional ice cube but its gelatin membrane traps water in its shape. The gelatine protein is biodegradable and reusable.
  • It can even help support plant growth if you toss the ice into your garden's compost once you're done using it.
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded researchers a $485,000 grant in hopes of finding ways to prevent supply chain issues like cross-contamination and inadequate climate control.
