  • Some parents in Texas are suing Apple because AirPods allegedly caused their child to have "permanent hearing loss."
  • Carlos Gordoa and Ariani Reyes filed the suit last week. They claim their son, who was 12 years old at the time, was watching Netflix in 2020. While the child was wearing AirPods, an Amber Alert came through.
  • The alert caused an "ear-shattering sound," even though the boy was listening at a low level.
  • His eardrum was torn, and "significant injuries" were caused to his hearing.
  • The suit says, "As a result of the damage to his right ear, the boy has suffered from bouts of dizziness, vertigo, and nausea. At 12 years old, he suffered sudden and permanent hearing loss in his right ear, other significant and temporary or permanent injuries, pain, suffering, and the loss of the pleasures of life."
  • As a result, the parents said their son will need a hearing aid for the rest of his life.
  • The family is seeking at least $75,000 in damages. Apple has not commented on the suit.
