  • Amazon has a new feature that could be cool, or creepy.
  • The Alexa voice assistant will be able to recreate anyone's voice, including the voice of a deceased relative.
  • An example was previewed at a conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
  • Alexa’s senior vice president Rohit Prasad showed a video where a child asked Alexa to read a bedtime story in dearly departed grandma's voice.
  • How can the device do this? All Alexa needs is a minute of someone's speech. Artificial intelligence takes over to recreate the voice as best as possible.
  • Amazon did not announce when the feature would be available.
  • Some opponents feel this technology could expand problems with scams and false narratives.
