You're Wrong About 'Beer Before Liquor'

  • LIfehacker.com's experts say the old drinking adage “Beer before liquor, never sicker. Liquor before beer, in the clear" is nothing but a bar myth.
  • Many people believe starting your night with beer before switching to something harder will make you sick and that drinking liquor before beer will lessen the blow of a hangover.
  • Lifehacker points out that "alcohol is alcohol" and it doesn't matter the order in which you drink your booze, because "alcohol starts to be absorbed into your bloodstream the moment it hits your stomach. By the time you feel hungover the next day, you’ve already taken in everything you drank the night before."
  • A 2019 study of 90 participants also dispelled the bar myth, concluding that “neither type nor order of consumed alcoholic beverages significantly affected hangover intensity.”
