In a milestone move, Starbucks is letting customers (starting today Wednesday January 3rd, 2024) use their own personal cups as part of an effort to curb personal waste. This will happen in the drive-thru lanes as well as inside the store. All you need to do in the drive-thru is mention to the barista that you have your own clean mug and they will pick it up at the window "using a contactless vessel to ensure hygiene and safety". If you are using the app, there will be a button to push that says "personal cup" option so you can then bring it to the store, give the mug to the barista, and they will also have a "contactless vessel" to put your cup into. You MUST clean your mug yourself and know the barista will not rinse it out for you. They will also not be accepting mugs larger than 40 ounces. If you use a personal mug you will get a 10 cent discount and 25 stars if you are a Starbucks member. This is a huge effort for the company to meet their goal of reducing waste output by 50% by 2030.
