Demolition began Monday at Matteson's vacant Lincoln Mall, with a possible redevelopment of the site, southeast of U.S. 30 and Cicero Avenue.
A crew began by knocking down a section of the former Sears store on the mall's south side.
It will take about four months to complete.
Did you ever shop there back in the day? What was your favorite store?
Opened in 1973, Lincoln Mall once counted Sears, J.C. Penney, Montgomery Ward and Carson Pirie Scott as anchors. The Carson's store remains open.
