Chicago Soda Tax Approved by Judge

Cook County's "pop tax" has been cleared to go into effect by Cook County Judge Daniel Kubasiak.

The tax was supposed to go into effect on July 1st, but was blocked by the judge.

The new tax will add a penny per ounce to the cost of sweetened drinks. The tax will up the price of a 2-liter bottle of soda by 68 cents and a six-pack by 72 cents!

As if we weren't already paying enough with the 10.25% sales tax in the city....

It was not immediately clear when it will be implemented but expected soon...
