Myra Becker answered her door on Monday and was met with a code enforcement officer from the City of Elgin, who informed her that her "Impeach Trump" sign had to be removed. Apparently, the size of the sign, 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide, is larger than allowed by city ordinance.
Ms. Becker who is 94 told the Tribune that she intended to make a statement. “I wanted to do something. I can’t march, I can’t protest very effectively. But I could put up a sign.”
A spokeswoman for the city said that Becker could display a sign with the same message so long as it was no larger than 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
Becker said that she doesn’t know how the sign came to the city’s attention, and said her neighbors have been very supportive of her.
