Michael Dumas, a 17-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee was infected with hookworms during a trip to a Florida beach!
They enjoyed the day on Pompano Beach, just north of Fort Lauderdale. He let his friends bury him in the sand...and days later, he began to suffer ear aches and had bumps under the skin of his legs and thighs. Doctors quickly diagnosed him with a severe case of hookworms. At least four other people visiting with him were also infected that day.
Michael's mother, Kelli Dumas, posted that awful condition on Facebook as her son's feet swelled up from the infection which required dermatologists to try to freeze the worms with liquid nitrogen.
