On Tuesday, Chicago State University canceled two women's basketball games according to the AP, becoming the first major sports entity in the United States to cancel events due to coronavirus fears.
The school also announced that its men's team would not travel to Seattle or Utah for a pair of Western Athletic Conference games this week, leading some to speculate whether the entire NCAA basketball tournament would be played in empty arenas in order to prevent the deadly virus from spreading.
"We’ve contingency planned for all circumstances," NCAA Chief Operating Officer Donald Remy told Bloomberg News on Tuesday, referring to the notion that March Madness may take place in venues with no fans.
