A Wisconsin farmer figured out a beautiful way to create joy for people during the pandemic.
Scott Thompson and his wife wanted to bring happiness to others at their Thompson Strawberry Farms in Kenosha County and began brainstorming. They settled on sunflowers--and planted more than two million of them. "We just did it...and we just kept building," Thompson told CNN.
"As the season went on, the pandemic never went anywhere...and we thought people might be looking for something to do." He added, "And what a great way to social distance and...smile, basically."
Now, in addition to offering strawberry, raspberry and pumpkin picking, visitors can pick sunflowers--safely across 22 acres. The flower picking has become quite popular. "People are so happy to be out there and have a place to go," Thompson said.
