Illinois Man Has Kept Richard Nixon Sandwich for 60 Years

For 60 years, an Illinois man has kept a half-eaten sandwich from President Richard Nixon.

On September 22, 1960, Steve Jenne was a Boy Scout when Nixon visited his town. Nixon ate half of a buffalo chicken sandwich at a cookout, which the boy took home and put in the freezer. "I looked around and thought, 'If no one else was going to take it, I am going to take it,'" Jenne said.

The sandwich has brought Jenne attention over the years, even resulting in a 1988 appearance on The Tonight Show. The appearance got him some other goodies, including a half-eaten snack from host Johnny Carson and a paper plate signed by Steve Martin.

However, his prized possession is still the Nixon sandwich. "As long as I am living, that sandwich will be stored in my freezer in a container that is labeled, 'Save, don't throw away,'" Jenne said.
