The music video for Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is the latest to surpass one billion views on YouTube! It was released in 1983 and first added to YouTube in 2009.
“Back when we made the video there was no YouTube, so when you think about it, it’s really extraordinary,” Cyndi shares. “The reach that this song has. The longevity. That people still purposely seek this video out and press play. Wow. I’m really grateful. Thank you.”
The clip is now the fifth song from the eighties to have a video reach the billion views mark. Others include Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” A-ha’s “Take on Me,” Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
