Lincoln Mall opened in 1973 and for over 40 years, was a popular shopping destination for Matteson.
Their anchor stores included Carson Pirie Scott, Montgomery Ward, Wieboldt's, and JCPenney.
Montgomery Ward closed their store in 1999 and JCPenney in 2000.
After that, many more stores slowly abandoned the mall and on January 7, 2015, Cook County ordered the building to be closed permanently with the exception of Carson's. Eventually, they moved out as well and demolition was completed by the end of summer 2017.
