Cold ice cream on a hot summer day can instantly give you a cooling feeling, but it doesn’t last.

When we start digesting, it creates energy and heat, which makes our body temperature go up. (insert horrified emoji here LOL)

“It’s all about the thermic effect of digestion and absorption,” dietitian Tara Marchello explains. “And when we digest, it creates energy and heat. And therefore, our body temperature can go up.”

Eating ice cream is of course, ok in moderation, but stay hydrated before and after! Also, eating foods with high water content, like cucumbers and melon, can help keep you cooler.
