Three weeks after it wandered off, a blind golden retriever in Alaska has been reunited with its owners.
Sitka resident Ted Kubacki says his family had given up hope that their dog, Lulu, survived being on the streets for all that time, citing the dog's blindness and advanced age. Which is why they were so surprised when they received a call from someone who told them their beloved pet had been found.
But she was in bad shape. The 80-pound dog dropped 23 pounds in the time she was gone and was very weak and dehydrated.
Lulu was discovered in a cluster of salmonberry bushes by a construction crew, which initially mistook the pooch for a bear, Kubacki says. After hearing about Lulu's return, residents of Sitka have pitched in to cover the golden retriever's veterinarian bills, Kubacki reveals.
