The Black Crowes' Chris Robinson opened up about the band's messy 2015 breakup, revealing he deliberately sabotaged the group after feeling "heartbroken" by the band's sentiment at the time.

"I was angry and I felt that I was in a situation that, you know, the only thing I could control is..." the rocker told Jay Mohr on the Tuesday (May 19) episode of the comedian's Mohr Stories podcast. "At the time, my manager goes, 'Well, what would you want to keep doing this?' And I knew this would be the nail in the head. I knew I could also set it down. I said, 'Oh, I want more money then. If this is a cash cow, then I want my side of beef.'" Watch the clip here.

In the episode, the "She Talks to Angels" musician revealed that he was unhappy with the direction of the rock group that he and his brother, Rich, cofounded in 1984. Robinson specifically mentioned that the band's goal had primarily become "chasing money so everyone can live a certain lifestyle."

"I was like, 'I'm not here for that,'" Chris continued. "I did it to be cruel in a way, too, because my heart was broken, and I wasn't gonna allow my spirit to be broken by the business and the attitude and culture that the band had cultivated at that time within."

Eventually, the brothers put aside their differences to reunite in 2019, going on to announce a 2020 tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1990 hit album Shake Your Money Maker.

In March, the band released their latest album, A Pound of Feathers.
